New Volkswagen Crafter

Nick Axtell, Specialist Sales Manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles gave this positive evaluation of the first accessible version of the new Volkswagen Crafter throughout the whole of the UK.

Minibus Options has unveiled its first ever new Crafter accessible minibus conversion - and I think it looks fantastic.

The demonstrator is based on the medium wheelbase Startline Crafter with front-wheel drive. The nine seat wheelchair accessible vehicle is compact, stylish and has a high-end interior finish, making the whole package really stand out.

It took months of research and development to complete and makes Minibus Options the first of our recognised converters to bring out an accessible minibus on the new Crafter - so it really is the first of its kind.

It's great to see such a well finished and versatile conversion of the new Crafter. The UK market for Crafter-sized minibus conversions is about 4,500 vehicles a year. We currently represent just two per cent of this market, so see this Crafter conversion as a great opportunity.

The layout provides capacity for eight passengers; four of these seats can be removed to allow access for wheelchairs, plus one seat can be folded away.

Minibus Options fitted the van with an electro-hydraulic internal tail-lift, which is operated remotely from a hand-held control unit, and an electrically operated step and fold-out handrail for access through its side load door.

A reverse aid camera has been included with VDU (Visual Display Unit) fitted to the rear-view mirror, to help the driver when manoeuvring and to reduce the chances of accidents. For comfort, a two-kilowatt Eberspaecher diesel-fired heater has been installed to keep passengers warm and comfy.
