The Ford Transit minibus is still one of the most popular commercial vehicles on the road in the UK today.
It is available in four lengths, three roof heights, front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, all wheel drive, numerous engines, numerous weights and a plentiful choice of colours. It is an excellent drive.
Unfortunately the platform does not lend itself well to a medium to large accessible minibus conversion and side door access is not the best available. The Jumbo model especially does suit having an underfloor tail lift for wheelchair access, however once on board multiple seat places need to be removed in order to provide adequate space for a wheelchair. The position of the wheelboxes do not offer a large enough overhang to fit wheelchairs in the rear corners, therefore if carrying more than one wheelchair a higher ratio of seating needs to be removed than in less expensive competitors vehicles. It fairs better when carrying up to three wheelchairs as a small to medium size M1 conversion.
The Transit is much stronger in the fixed seat minibus market where customers are generally able bodied. Schools, Colleges, Universities and Youth Groups regularly choose the vehicle even over less expensive competitors because of the level of equipment and comfort the Transit comes with as standard.
Suitable for both M1 and M2 applications. Now available to meet latest Type Approval regulations and issued with an IVA.
